Area di Barbara Bologna

During my time in Italy, I had the privilege of visiting the studio of my friend and designer behind the brand Area di Barbara Bologna. In her Fall/Winter 14/15 collection titled as “MY DOLL – The imitation of Humanity” she has taken a new step by adding bold colors and patterns to her usual palette of black and muted tones.

Hesitant at first, I quickly got over my doubts as Barbara explained why she wanted to evolve as an artist and create something completely new for the market resting on its laurels. After careful examination and trying on a few pieces myself, the collection suddenly started to feel like a breath of fresh air and I understood where she was coming from: Bold is beautiful and bold is strong. Now, who wouldn’t want to feel that way everyday?

Last year I already declared my love for the Tuscan countryside after visiting my dear friend Barbara from the label Area di Barbara Bologna. When the opportunity arose to pay another visit to her studio and the surrounding cities Florence, Pisa and Lucca, I didn’t hesistate for long. This time around I was accompanied by friends and experienced a totally new side of Florence, a city which I can wholeheartedly claim now as one of the most beautiful places in Europe. Whether it is the relaxed “dolce far niente” athmosphere, fantastic food, friendly people or the amazing surrounding nature, this is where my soul is at ease. There are not too many places left in the world that make your heart skip a beat, or rather create a calm, stress free pulse. It’s no wonder I’m already getting an itch to visit Tuscany again.

I have just woken from very long hibernation period, call it a writers block if you like, but here I am back from the grave and ready to blog again. It’s like one of those moments when you feel the first rays of the spring sun on your face, and suddenly everything seems possible. To start off, I share some pictures from my Easter trip to Belgium. I mainly hung out in Gent and and Antwerp, where every avant-garde fanatics must-see destination is of course the Ann Demeulemeester flagship store. That beautiful establishment alone called for a picture time.
